Dysbiosis markers
Each one of the measures noted in this category indicates either balance or dysbiosis, and is a useful checklist for informed recommendations. It is important to review all markers for completeness.
Signs of health include:
- Lactobacillus species dominating (but not the species lactobacillus iners)
- Opportunistic yeasts detected are zero or under five thousand genomic copies / ml
- Opportunistic bacteria detected are less than 1 million genomic copies / ml
- Opportunistic aerobic bacteria not detected
- Ureasplasma and/or mycoplasma not detected
Signs of dysbiosis include:
- Presence of lactobacillus iners as the dominating beneficial bacteria
- Opportunistic yeasts detected over five thousand genomic copies / ml
- Opportunistic bacteria detected over 1 million genomic copies / ml
- Opportunistic aerobic bacteria detected
